Dubai International Airport was build in 1959 and was the first airport to be build in the UAE. It is three miles (4km) from Dubai city centre and 105 miles (170km) from Abu Dhabi.

Dubai International Airport is the busiest airport in the Middle East and is served by more than a 100 airlines worldwide.

The Dubai Airport is continuously developing and currently has two terminals with the third under construction as part of a major expansion project. The building is not only beautiful, but easy to navigate. You might even find yourself substantially richer if you buy a chance in either the million dollar raffle or one on a luxury car. Such cars are won every month. Chances on the cars are good, too: only 1,000 tickets are sold at about $125 each.

Dubai International Airport has excellent passenger facilities throughout its two terminals.

Money & Communications :

The airport has banking services and ATMs in both terminals and a 24-hour bureau de change facilities. Dubai Duty Free also offers foreign exchange, banking and internet facilities.

Eating & Drinking :

There are several restaurants, cafes and bars in the in the departures lounge, most within a purpose-built food court. The Food Court is located on the upper level, with outlets including fast food and international cuisine.

Shopping :

There is comprehensive duty-free shopping at the airport. Dubai Duty Free has a massive array on offer at the Terminal 1 Sheikh Rashid Departures concourse and the ground level of the Departures hall, while Terminal 2 has a special bulk purchasing desk.

Luggage :

There is a baggage relocation system in place, which electronically tags each piece of luggage, in order to make retrieval of lost luggage faster and easier.

Other Facilities :

There is a 24-hour fully-equipped medical center, located on the ground level of the Terminal 1 Sheikh Rashid Departures concourse. There are also prayer rooms (for either men or women), a lounge for women, a children’s play area and the the G-Force Health Club with a swimming pool, gym and massage facilities.

Airport Hotels :

The Dubai International Airport Hotel, a five-star facility, is located on level three of the Sheikh Rashid Departures concourse; rooms are available on a nightly and hourly base. There are many hotels situation in the vicinity, the closest being Holiday Inn Dubai, Golden Tulip Aeroplane, Rimal Rotana Suites, InterContinental Dubai>, Le Meridien Hotel Dubai, Sheraton Diera Hotel, Taj Palace Dubai, Four Points Bur Dubai, Sheraton Dubai Hotel, Ramada Dubai and Marriott JW Dubai. Many hotels offer courtesy shuttle buses to/from the airport. Hotel reservations can be made in the Arrivals hall.

Airport Disabled Facilities :

There are desks dedicated to passengers with special needs between rows A and B in the Departures hall. Electric carts are available to transport passengers to/from the new Sheikh Rashid Departures concourse, where disabled passengers can access special lounges near gates 9 and 22; a dedicated lounge for disabled travellers is also available in the Arrivals hall. Assistance is available for those with special needs; passengers should request special assistance from their airline prior to travel. Rooms for disabled passengers are available in the Dubai International Airport Hotel.

Airport Conference And Business Facilities :

There are two business centers within the Terminal 1 Departures concourse. The Connect Business Centre, in the Dubai International Airport Hotel, has five meeting rooms, accommodating from six to 18 delegates, and a conference room for up to 60 delegates. There is also a first-rate communications system, eight workstations, and secretarial and office services facilities. Global Link, near gate 16, has six ISD booths, workstations with Internet and fax, and secretarial services around the clock. Touch-screen Internet kiosks, which take credit card payments, are located opposite the DCA First Class Lounge and the Irish Village . There are several first- and business-class lounges, many with workstations and Internet access, in both Terminal 1 and 2. VVIP and VIP lounges, with private offices and showers, are available for passengers using the Al Majilis facility, which must be booked 24 hours in advance (via the airport’s Web site).

Arriving Passengers

Visa Services

Arriving passengers who need to collect the original visa permit at the airport can do so at the specially designated desks at the end of the Arrivals tunnel before taking the escalators to passport control desks.

Passport Control

There are 32 passport control desk upon arrivals. Visitors to Dubai need a valid passport or travel document and visa. Those arriving in Dubai need not fill in the embarkation cards if their visas have been issued in Dubai. Thirty-three countries have been exempted for visa requirement. E-gates are available here for faster processing of immigration formalities.

Baggage Services

The baggage and conveyor belts are the widest available on the market and the checked-in baggage is tagged with a special Baggage Reconciliation System which tracks each piece of baggage from check-in through loading. All bags are scanned with barcode scanners and the system stores all information about the location of the baggage. This makes retrieval - whenever necessary - much faster.

Transportation

Taxi Public transport service is very efficient in and around Dubai. Dubai Transport taxis are available 24 hrs a day in the city and at the Arrivals Terminal.
For those looking to rent a car on arrival in Dubai, there are several car rental companies represented at Dubai International Airport. These include Avis, Budget, Hertz and Thrifty.

Hotel Reservations

Upon arriving at Dubai International Airport, a special one stop travel desk is available in the Arrivals Hall next to the Customs X-ray machines. Passengers can book hotels, tour packages, airline tickets etc.

DTCM Tourist Kiosk

The Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, Dubai (DTCM) desk is available upon Arrivals after clearing customs. Tourist information, maps and sightseeing tours can be organised from here.

Special Lounge

A dedicated lounge for unaccompanied minors and passengers with special needs is available in the Arrivals Hall. Those waiting to receive such passengers can do so here. Airline staff or ground handling staff will bring the arriving passengers to this lounge.

Departing Passengers

Check In

The Departures Hall offers 221 check-in desks with state-of-the-art 42 inch plasma screen providing bilingual displays of flight information and also guiding passengers to the desired check-in counters. A separate and dedicated check-in facility for Emirates First and Business Class passengers is also available.

Passport Control & E-Gate

All passengers proceeding to passport control need to have their boarding cards and passports in hand. The e-gate facility, newly introduced at Dubai International Airport, is also available here for quick passage. This is an advanced passenger clearance system that considerably accelerates the movement of traffic through electronic screening of passengers' data with the help of a smart card.

Shiekh Rashid Terminal Services

Quite commonly known as the 'Concourse', here one would find the main Dubai Duty Free, food court, banking, internet services, entertainment for children, business facilities, medical care, special needs, airport hotel, postal, lounges, and many more services

Departure Hall Services

This is the area used by both passengers and public to avail services such as ticketing, e-gate registration, Etisalat payment machines, food court, and numerous other services.

Transportation:
