If Amrita Rao, star of movies, a reality series and male fantasies, is the mate for you, read on - she knows exactly what she wants.
When Bollywood actress Amrita Rao glided into Studio 8 boutique on Saturday evening, it was a case of life imitating art. Demure and coy, the Vivaah star resembled her most famous on-screen persona, Poonam - a stereotypically shy Indian bride.
But unlike Poonam, Rao is far more outspoken. Tipped to grace the cover of three men's magazines including Maxim and FHM in the near future, Rao is convinced that she is the star of every Indian male's perfect bride fantasy. Apparently this distinction has even won her a seat on the judging panel of the marriage-based reality show Perfect Bride.
"After Vivaah, my image became synonymous with the perfect Indian bride. In fact, Star TV wouldn't have approached me for their reality show had I not been a popular Indian bride icon," Rao says.
"For some reason or the other, I have become synonymous with the perfect bride persona."
Rao was in Dubai this weekend along with Indian celebrity designer Manish Malhotra to showcase his festive Diwali collection. But don't be fooled by the shy bride act. Ten minutes into the conversation and it becomes clear that Rao is an antidote to the sacrificial and virginal Indian brides. tabloid! walks you through the conversation about her perfect groom and more.
"I want my man to be sure of himself"
I am a celebrity and I want my better half to be confident about his achievements. He has to understand that despite being rich or successful in his own field, if he is married to a celebrity, the spotlight often falls on the celebrity. So he should be able to handle that.
"I would dump the guy if..."
If he constantly compares himself with me or feels overshadowed in my presence. A charismatic personality is another one of my demands. He should be able to command people's attention.
“Today's girls are willing to adjust, but we are not willing to compromise.”
There was a time when Indian girls would bend backwards to accommodate their husbands and their families. Today, the scenario is different. We are happy to make adjustments - but we will not settle for anything less. Compromising is not our thing.
“Madhuri Dixit got it right with Dr Ram.”
They make a lot of sense together. I saw them together for Aaja Nachle promotions and he looked at ease with the photoshoots and other film-centric promotions. He does not belong to the world of films, but he handles it very well. They make a good pair.
“I am not judging anybody on Perfect Bride.”
The reality show is not digressive. My role is not to judge the participants but to act as a friend, mediator and an ice breaker between the bride and the family. It's not a dance or talent-hunt competition.
