Ras Al Khaimah: The number of violations of the labour department's midday work ban dropped considerably this year, thanks to an increased public awareness on the prohibition, a senior official said.
The official said initial reports reaching the labour department indicate that the number of violations declined by half when compared to year-ago figures.
The midday work ban was implemented during the peak of summer to protect workers from heat-related deaths or injuries.
The official said the number of workers who were brought to hospitals for heat-related illnesses such as sun stroke was down by at least 25 per cent compared to the number of cases recorded in 2007 and 2008.
