Dubai: A number of functions are being organised in the UAE to mark the sixty-second Independence Day of Pakistan Friday.
The official flag-hoisting ceremonies will be held at the Pakistani Embassy in Abu Dhabi and its Consulate General in Dubai at 8am. Apart from the singing of the national anthem, school children will also sing national songs at the ceremonies. Messages from Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani will also be read out at the functions.
Leading Pakistani community member and social worker Abdul Sattar Pardesi is organising an Independence Day function at Dhow Palace Hotel today at 8am. Ambassador of Pakistan Khursheed Ahmad Junejo will cut the cake to mark the day.
Another function is being organised at the Pakistan Association Dubai. The highlight of the ceremony will be the stone-laying ceremony for the construction of the new building for the Pakistan Sports and Cultural Centre. There will be musical and cultural performances by talented Pakistanis living in the UAE.
Pakistan's Ambassador at Large, Javed Malek, will organise a special ceremony in Dubai under the banner of the Pakistan International Council.
At least two functions will be held in Sharjah tomorrow. Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) supporters in the UAE are holding a function at Mubarak Centre in Sharjah. The second ceremony will be held at the Pakistan Social Centre where Pakistani Consul-General Dr Saeed Mahmond will be the chief guest.
