Ras Al Khaimah: The Naturalisation and Residence Department announced on Monday that it will conduct daily inspection campaigns during Ramadan all over the emirate to arrest beggars who tend to surface at this time.
Colonel Sultan Al Nuaimi, who heads the department said that the inspection campaigns will run day and night with all the department's inspectors taking part in these campaigns. He instructed the department's various sections to take an active part in these campaigns.
He urged the public to cooperate with the authorities and report cases of begging. Never feel pity for them as they pose a serious threat to society, he advised.
He stressed that Ramadan is the peak season for beggars who spread in large numbers all over the emirate, but the department's inspectors and officials have been instructed not to allow them to operate.
Colonel Al Nuaimi said that during the past two weeks, inspectors arrested 99 people who violated UAE residency laws.
Among the detainees, he said, one was a beggar and another an illegal immigrant. Colonel Al Nuaimi added that all detainees were Asians. They have been referred to the concerned authorities so that legal measures against them can be taken.
The public can report cases of begging on 80080 or 07 2055000
