Dubai: The animal welfare cause is looking for a young lady to become Miss Ambassador with a Voice for Animals (AVA).
The competition, scheduled to take place in October, is open to any young woman aged between 17 and 30 and with a genuine concern for animals.
The pageant and gala dinner is being organised by Dubai-based animal loving sisters, Janice Shaw and Sarita Barnett, who want to raise awareness on animal welfare and provide support to dog and cat homes.
Shaw and Barnett previously organised a dance marathon at the Grand Hyatt for the same cause.
Ladies who wish to join the competition do not need to have a pet but must convince judges that they care for animals and show a genuine interest in animal welfare.
The candidate must be able to educate the public and spread awareness on how a pet needs to be looked after.
With the help of British dog competition Crufts judges the winners will be picked after a few selection rounds. "Both organisations are overloaded and unable to cope with the amount of cats and dogs abandoned, maltreated and in many cases found in appalling conditions and in need of urgent medical treatment. We desperately want to change this situation," said Shaw.
The competition will include a one-on-one interview on her passion for animals, followed by a beauty pageant where all the girls will parade in an outfit and in an evening gown.
There will be no swimsuit round.
The future Miss AVA will be willing to assist at Dubai's petting farm and spend time helping out at K9 and Feline Friends animal shelters.
