Dubai: The Noor Dubai Initiative, which provides medical treatment for poor people suffering from eye-related diseases, has been transformed into a foundation, thanks to the generosity and directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Based on Shaikh Mohammad's directives, the Noor Dubai Foundation, which will be a body with full financial and administrative independence, will also remain a full charitable and humanitarian institution.
The new development followed a meeting held yesterday when Shaikh Mohammad received members of the working team of the Noor Dubai Initiative at his office in the presence of Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs.
The team, led by Qadi Saeed Al Muroshid, Director-General of Dubai Health Authority and Executive Director of the Noor Dubai Initiative, briefed Shaikh Mohammad about the achievements of the initiative, including the number of cases it had successfully treated in the UAE and in various Third World countries.
Shaikh Mohammad expressed satisfaction with the successes of the initiative which he launched last year during Ramadan.
He commended the team for a job well done and pledged his continuous support for the foundation. He ordered its programmes and activities to be expanded to reach more needy people across the world.
Al Muroshid thanked Shaikh Mohammad for the gesture, which he said had brought hope to low-income groups in poor countries.
