Celebrity doctor Hayden Kho and actress Katrina Halili, faced off at a congressional hearing last week. The hearing is investigating the sex tape controversy that has generated the biggest buzz in the Philippines.
The video contained graphic, intimate moments between Kho and Halili and has been circulating online for weeks, prompting the actress to sue the celebrity doctor for grave abuse and invasion of privacy. Kho has since apologised, but claims that he was seduced and drugged by Halili.
According to speculation, more videos can be expected in the next few weeks. There have also been numerous theories about who is circulating them. Hayden's friend Eric Chua is the primary suspect, as he was allegedly instructed by Kho's ex girlfriend - cosmetic surgeon to the stars Vicki Belo - to retrieve videos from her ex lover's laptop. Chua has denied the allegation.
It has also been suggesed that Belo might have uploaded the video herself, just to put Kho and Halili to shame; although some believe Belo is not capable of doing such a thing. In many interviews she has said that she has forgiven everybody and is trying to move on with her life.
What many are thinking is that Kho may have uploaded the video himself. According to reports Kho is very insecure and has in the past revelled in the fact that his antics have made newspapers headlines.
Kho has kept himself busy with interviews since the leak, prompting many to suspect he is enjoying the current media circus that the sex video controversy has become.
Geisler in trouble, again
Baron Geisler is at it again.
Yasmien Kurdi, a young actress has filed a report with the police claiming Geisler had molested her on set while they were filming the soon-to-be-aired programme, Suspetsa.
Kurdi's camp says one of the show's staff members has a cellphone video clip of the incident. Geisler has denied all the accusations and confirmed at Friday night's Star Awards for Movies that he has not been taken off the show and will continue taping for the programme.
According to a statement released last week, Kurdi was not going to file a case in court and merely wants a public apology. Now, however, the actress says she is keen on pursuing the case. Geisler's camp insists the incident is purely a misunderstanding on the set.
Several months ago the daughter of celebrity couple William Martinez and Yayo Aguila accused Geisler of sexual harassment. He has since denied the allegations and claimed that he was set up.
The case is still pending.
Director Brillante Mendoza is the toast of the Pinoy filmdom after he was voted the Best Director at the 62nd Cannes film festival, for his film Kinatay. The movie about a brutally murdered prostitute got mixed reviews, but critics couldn't deny his artistry.
Although overshadowed by the Hayden Kho-Katrina Hallili sex tape scandal, Mendoza came home last week to adulation from his peers in the industry. He was also given a presidential citation for his achievement. It is the first time a Filipino artist has won a major award at Cannes. He beat renowned directors Quentin Tarantino and Ang Lee to the prize.
After winning the award, Showbiz Tsismis asked what Mendoza thought about the reviews. "This is not just about entertainment, these kinds of stories are real. People are reacting violently to the film as if I took every bit of my artistic license to the edge. These things happen.
"Admittedly, this type of film doesn't have broad appeal, but my goal is to at least share how gruesome reality can be for some people," the director said.
