Dubai: More than Dh200,000 was raised at a charity ball last week to raise funds for the Dubai-based Mission to Seafarers.
Over 230 guests participated in the Jungle Fever Ball to help send a 18-member team to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. All proceeds from the event went to Angel Appeal Kilimanjaro Challenge.
Ali Ahmad Saleh, Consul General of Tanzania, announced that the Tanzanian Consulate in Dubai will fund a one-day safari for the whole expedition to the Ngorogoro Crater one of the world's greatest natural spectacles and renowned wildlife conservation area.
One-third of the raised funds will go towards the trip costs. The rest will go to keep the Mission to Seafarers' Flying Angel support vessel going to sea daily to bring communication facilities to thousands of seafarers off the coast of Fujairah.
Guests had a fun time at the ball. African cuisine was served at tables and entertainment was provided by Emirates Entertainment. One of the highlights of the event was the enticing beats of Dubai Drums.
Each guest was given a gift bag worth over Dh300 including vouchers for Mandara Spa and Ruth Chris Steak House, both at the Monarch Hotel. Ladies were given vouchers for Al Liali Jewellery.
The team is looking for individuals and companies to sponsor.
