No buses on Abu Dhabi roads from 6.30am-9am

Abu Dhabi: Buses transporting workers will be banned from using Abu Dhabi island’s roads from 6.30am to 9.30am to encourage the private sector to adopt flexible working hours.


The decision was approved on Saturday during a meeting of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council held under the chairmanship of Saeed Eid Al Gafli, Chairman of the Executive Office. The ban aims to ease traffic congestion on key roads and interchanges in the capital and improve road safety.


During the meeting, the committee also approved proposals to allott bus-only lanes and to upgrade 40 bus stations. It also cleared improvement of pedestrian crossings at a total cost of Dh30 million to encourage the use of public transport and enhance the effectiveness of mass transit.


The committee okayed a unified governmental platform for construction permits with an aim to save customers’ time and efforts. The move comes in line with the directives of the wise leadership to achieve further excellence and leadership in rendering its services. It is also in line with Abu Dhabi’s rapid urban and development progress.
