Iraq parliamentarian in custody over bounced cheque

Dubai: Iraqi parliamentarian Mohammad Al Taii has been placed in provisional custody pending further investigation in the case of issuing a Dh7 million bounced cheque, said Dubai’s Attorney General on Saturday. 


According to a media statement issued by Dubai Media Office, Essam Eisa Al Humaidan, Dubai’s Attorney General said: “Iraqi member of parliament Mohammad Al Taii has been placed in provisional custody following a criminal complaint against him in Dubai for issuing a cheque worth around Dh7 million that bounced. The suspect was apprehended in Dubai and prosecutors have questioned him in the presence of his lawyer.”


The suspect remains in custody pending further interrogation, according to Al Humaidan, and until further legal procedures are decided in the case. 


Gulf News contacted Al Humaidan for further comments regarding the case, but he could not be immediately reached.
