Twenty Two High Profile Companies And Over Two Hundred Final Year Students Take Part In The “2010 Career Day” At Middlesex Dubai

Middlesex University Dubai held its 3rd annual Career Day On Thursday March 4, 2010. Its focus was to bring together final year students and local employers and for students to learn about Graduate opportunities, the local employment market and to submit their CV's for entry level graduate positions. Second year students also attended and were keen to discuss opportunities for internships and future employment prospects, especially in the light of the current economic situation.

Around 200 students attended the event and enjoyed the opportunity to meet representatives from leading local and international companies including Chartis, Standard Chartered Bank, EFG-Hermes, Deloitte & Touche, Ernst & Young, Grant Thornton, Mazars, Horwath Mak, PriceWaterhouse Coopers, Halcon Real Estate,  Hamptons International, PAE Government Services and Jotun UAE. The university was also delighted to welcome representatives from Stepping Stones Center for Autistic Spectrum Disorders, providers of internship opportunities for second year Psychology majors, together with the Child Early Intervention Medical Center. A selection of recruitment companies, including Manpower Professional, Adecco ME and Careertunity were also able to give students important information about the local labour market. Information on professional training was also available from ACCA, Genesis Institute and Dubai Professional Trading Group.

The event was organized by Becky Kilsby, Manager of the university's Careers & Employability Service and her colleague, Yogini Udeshi. They were supported by 30 student volunteers who assisted exhibitors. In his welcoming remarks, Professor Raed Awamleh, Director of Middlesex University Dubai emphasized that, “Industry cooperation and involvement are among our key strategic objectives. Our mission as a university is to prepare our graduates to meet challenges and opportunities with confidence and lifelong learning skills. We believe that you will find our graduates to be equipped with the necessary aptitude required for effective corporate activities, and I hope, potentially add value to your organizational mission.”  

According to Becky Kilsby, “One of the marks of a successful Career Day is the buzz of interaction between students and potential employers. What was particularly rewarding was also to see some of last year's graduates representing companies and recruiting the next batch of Middlesex graduates. We are delighted with the interest all the attending organizations have shown in our students and look forward to welcoming them onto campus in the future.”

The Dubai campus of Middlesex University London, which opened in January 2005, has more than 1,300 students from over 83 nationalities and offers 29 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in a wide variety of subject areas. The origins of Middlesex University in London date back to 1878 and it is one of only a handful of UK universities to have been awarded three Queen's anniversary prizes. In 2007, Middlesex was ranked third in London for Teaching and Learning (HEFCE) and the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) rated research at Middlesex as ‘Top 10 among new UK universities'. In 2009, the university received again the highest possible rating for its quality as assessed by the UK's Quality Assurance Agency (QAA). Furthermore, all programmes are approved by the Dubai Knowledge and Human Development Authority.
