International Gcse (9-1) Results – Everything You Need To Know

? Students in the UAE will receive their results on the morning of Thursday, August 22, 2019. In case they are unable to visit the school, they have the option of requesting results by post. Alternately, a relative or friend will be allowed to pick up the results, provided they are able to present ID as well as a signed letter from the student.

? The reformed GCSE and International GCSE qualifications will be awarded on a graded scale of 9 (the highest grade) to 1 (the lowest). At the same time, the new scale is aligned to key grades in the A* to G scale in each subject.

? 2019 is a milestone year because this is the first year when all Pearson Edexcel International GCSE subjects are using numerical grades.

? This new system of numerical grades aims to counter grade inflation at the top end. A and A* grades are now split between seven, eight and nine. They also are part of a package of educational reforms which included making syllabuses more challenging and doing away with coursework in many subjects, aside from practical ones including art, dance and drama.

? By adopting the new 9-1 grading scale to fully align with UK government intentions to raise standards, Pearson Edexcel International GCSEs better prepare students for the demands of A level study. This means that students are ideally placed to progress to International A Levels (IAL) and universities worldwide.

? Transferable skills have been embedded in the qualifications and resources, which means teachers help students develop these skills while they teach, rather than having to add something additional to their lessons, and students are aware of the skills they’re developing.
? A student unhappy with his/her grades may submit an appeal to the exam board. Grounds for appeal include procedures not being applied fairly, error in the original marking, or administrative errors such as incorrect totaling of marks. A secondary appeal is also permitted, failing which the student may approach the Examinations Procedures Review Service (EPRS) provided by exam board regulator Ofqual. It is important to note that appeals must be made within 14 days of getting the results of a review.
