Jameel Arts Centre - Summer Events:

July 18 2019 - August 17 2019
Film: Foyer by Ismail Bahri
Location: Gallery 9, Jameel Arts Centre
Time: Screenings on the hour

Foyer (2016, 32’)
A white piece of paper, a camera and daylight are the central protagonists of Tunisian filmmaker Ismaïl Bahri’s Foyer. Constructed around a simple filmic exercise- to walk around the streets of Tunis and capture, through a white piece of paper placed over the camera’s lens, the changing quality of light- the film soon takes on a life of its own through chance encounters with passersby. Conversations meander around the challenges of daily life in the city, the nature of filmmaking itself, and the tensions between those who remained and those who were able to build a life elsewhere, producing a film that is at once a portrait of a place in time, as well as a poetic mediation on the art of cinema.

Ismail Bahri (b.1978). Lives and works in Paris, France and Tunis, Tunisia.

Location: Project Space, Jameel Arts Centre

Artist and illustrator, Moylin Yuan introduces participants to modular origami to create Toshie’s Jewel, a module used to build bigger structures – for instance, 3 modules to make a pyramid and 6 to make a cube! Participants make their own artwork and take away an instructional guide to experiment with to make their own building blocks at home.
Jameel Arts Centre holds together a series of tours and workshops for children. The workshops feature a guided tour of the galleries and a discovery journey of artworks followed by creative hands-on activities, unique to each visit and led by artists and educators.
