Genie-Ous! Dubai Municipality’S Energy-Saving ‘Dubai Lamp’ Shines Light On Sustainable Future

Dubai, UAE – 7 March: Dubai Municipality secured its share of the Middle East Electricity 2018 limelight today by showcasing ‘the world’s most efficient lamp’ at the event’s Knowledge Programme workshops. With visitors to the 43rd edition of the region’s leading trade event for the power industrygaining valuable insight into how simple changes to lighting systems by real estate developers, business and individuals can result in significant energy and cost savings, Dubai Municipality opened the educational programme of workshops and seminars with an introduction on its illuminatingDubai Lamp. Dubbed ‘the world’s most efficient lamp’,the productis produced by Philips Lighting and officially launched in May 2017 in line with Dubai’s goals to reduce energy and water consumptionby as much as 30 per cent by 2030. The municipality has now set a target of replacing 10 million light bulbs with its energy-efficient alternatives by 2021. CHSS Consultants, an international engineering consultancy,demonstrated to the audience how it performed efficiency tests on the Dubai Lamp in one of its Dubai projects, a residential complex of 3,700 rooms. The firm’s research showed how it had saved 468Kw in lighting and air-conditioning use by switching lighting within the project to 2-Watt Dubai Lamp bulbs, which are equivalent to a standard 40-watt bulb. The change, CHSS Consultantssaid, resulted in running cost savings of AED682,000 (US$185,000). The MEE 2018 Knowledge Programme, taking place on the exhibition floor at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) until 8 March, features a comprehensive series of free-to-attend Professional Workshops and Technical Seminars addressing far-ranging topics across the energy industry. The fee-to-attend workshops are accredited by Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
