A remarkable number of visitors, including decision makers and industry leaders, have been trooping to the Dubai Maritime City Authority’s (DMCA) pavilion at the ongoing Dubai International Boat Show 2018, which will run until March 3 at Dubai Canal in Jumeirah. The visitors were all full of praise for DMCA’s innovation- and creativity-driven smart transformation and sustainability efforts, in addition to its integrated portfolio of smart services designed to enhance the local maritime sector.
Amer Ali, Executive Director of DMCA, said: “Our ongoing successful participation at Dubai International Boat Show 2018 is a strong incentive for us to continue supporting the event’s upcoming editions. The boat show has proved to be crucial to establish the leading global position of the Emirate of Dubai, which is today recognized as a destination for excellence in maritime leisure. Additionally, this strategic event is an opportunity for us to showcase our special and proactive initiatives designed to accelerate the maritime cluster’s sustainability and competitiveness driven by innovation, as well as build a modern, safe and sustainable sector. All these efforts are centered on cementing Dubai’s position as one of the most competitive maritime clusters worldwide under the guidance of our leadership.”
The large crowd, including water sports enthusiasts, visiting the DMCA’s pavilion has been mainly inquiring about the Authority’s forward-looking solutions, smart applications, and fast maritime licensing procedures. Many of the Maritime pioneers are benefiting from marine licensing services, which have allowed them to take the opportunity to conduct their marine driving license tests quickly and easily directly from the Dubai International Boat Show 2018. They have commended DMCA for using sophisticated methodology to facilitate maritime licensing as well as ensure adherence to technical specifications, maritime safety systems, local environmental requirements, and globally recognized standards -- all of which will strengthen Dubai's position as a maritime hub with one of the world's most competitive clusters.
Hamed Hassan, Director of DMCA's Customer Care Department, said: “We are pleased that our smart services and innovative solutions are receiving high interest from regional and international stakeholders. Such attention gives us an impetus to continue our smart transformation- and innovation-related efforts inspired by the ambitious vision of our leaders to develop a maritime environment capable of responding effectively to emerging trends and attracting regional and international investors. We are happy to support the region’s most prominent event for recreational navigation, which helps ensure the implementation of the highest standards of safety, best environmental practices, and local and international regulations, thereby reflecting Dubai’s vision of building a secure, integrated and sustainable maritime sector.”
DMCA representatives are on hand to answer queries on maritime licensing procedures which forego the need to visit the Authority’s offices and promote paperless transactions according to ‘Dubai Paperless Strategy’ launched by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council. The strategy will help the emirate transform into a full-fledged smart city.
The Authority is showcasing several smart initiatives and innovative electronic applications and platforms such as ‘Sea Dubai’ and Dubai Maritime Virtual Cluster (DMVC) that complement Dubai’s smart transformation initiatives and this year’s celebration of the UAE Innovation Month.
‘Sea Dubai’ focuses on Dubai’s maritime leisure segment to promote the emirate’s tourism. It helps create high-quality tourism facilities; generate new jobs in line with the Maritime Sector Strategy; strengthen the domestic maritime community; and catapult Dubai into the ranks of the world's most leading maritime capitals.
On the other hand, the DMVC is a smart and interactive platform for knowledge-sharing and research. It strives to further attract growth and promote competitiveness within the sector. Local and international maritime industry players have hailed the DMVC initiative, saying it strengthens industry cooperation in implementing various maritime activities. It is also an innovative concept that promotes easy, efficient, and high-quality maritime services in Dubai, while bolstering more cooperation and engagement among industry leaders.
The DMCA‘s ‘Smart Customer’ and ‘Smart Navigation’ are also being commended, with both apps giving the public an access to maritime services using their smartphones. These interactive smart initiatives play a huge role in helping Dubai implement its smart transformation plan because they make government services easier, faster and simpler.
