Finland's Saara Aalto And Matt Terry Make X Factor Final After 5 After Midnight Eliminated

Dubai, United Arab Emirates – 04 January 2017: Finland's Saara Aalto is a step closer to becoming the first ever non-UK winner of the X Factor after winning a place in the final alongside Matt Terry following the elimination of boy band 5 After Midnight. Aalto, from Helsinki, performed Everybody Wants To Rule The World by Tears For Fears, as well as a Queen medley with Adam Lambert, to win her place in the second leg of the final tomorrow night. After a video showed huge crowds turning out to watch Aalto perform in her home city earlier in the week, judge Simon Cowell said: "I've never seen anything like that on X Factor before. I want to go to Finland." Sarah Al Jarman, Director at Dubai One, said: “The thrilling semi-finals left our viewers hotly anticipating who will be crowned the winner of the X Factor next week. As the only free-to-air channel that is exclusively airing the hugely popular talent show to audiences in the Middle East, we are realising our aim to provide engaging family entertainment in line with the dynamic, modern and progressive spirit of Dubai.” The Christmas-themed semi-finals saw each of the wannabe winners performed two songs - one, a Christmas tune, and another of their own choice.Matt Terry kicked off the show with a rendition of traditional hymn Silent Night.He then went on to sing Say You Love Me by Jessie Ware. Bookies favourite Aalto will compete for the X Factor crown against Bromley waiter Terry who sang Jess Glynne's Take Me Home and teamed up with his mentor Nicole Scherzinger for a rendition of Prince hit Purple Rain.5 After Midnight lost out on the public vote after performing Beyonce's Crazy In Love and were joined on stage by Clean Bandit and last year's X Factor winner Louisa Johnson to sing Tears. Boyband 5 After Midnight hit the stage, taking on East 17's Stay Another Day - which was Christmas number one in 1994 - even taking inspiration the 90s band's all-white outfits. The performance won them high praise from the judging panel.They chose Stevie Wonder's Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours) as their second song. Emily Middlemas performed John Lennon classic War is Over. Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger both criticised her performance. She followed it by Tears for Fears' 1982 song Mad World - which was a Christmas number one itself when it was covered by Gary Jules in 2001. Star guests included Zara Larsson who sang I Would Like/Lush Life and and Lady Gaga who sang Million Reasons from her album Joanne.
